Fee Schedule. Each training has a predetermined registration fee. Please note that NEW IN 2012 we are offering discounts to Sexual and Domestic Violence Agency Members, Affiliate Members, and Individual Members in lieu of offreing different price levels for members. - Sexual and Domestic Violence Agency members receive a 25% discount on the registration fee for all staff.
- Affiliate Agency members receive a 10% discount on the registration fee for all staff.

Basic Advocacy Trainings (BAT)

In 2012, all scheduled Basic Advocacy Trainings (BATs) will be conducted in Richmond or Charlottesville. The Action Alliance is committed to making the BATs available in communities where travel to these locations might hinder participation, particularly agencies in Southwest Virginia. Please contact the Training Institute Manager to schedule a regional BAT for staff/volunteers from multiple agencies and to inquire about additional trainings on request that might be available to you.

Building Organizational Capacity to Respond to and Prevent Violence in LGBTQ Communities

This training is brought to you through a community partnership with the Virginia Anti-Violence Project and is part of a national roundtable of organizations serving LGBTQ survivors and communities. Participants will indentify ways to enhance their organizational ability to provide culturally appropriate services to LGBTQ survivors and will build relationships with LGBTQ community advocates. A second track will be geared towards building capacity of LGBTQ communties to organize against violence and can be helpful to LGBTQ people in your area.
Intended Audience: Advocates, community members, allied professionals, and anyone interested in LGBTQ community response to violence.

Community Engagement Advanced Training

In this two-day intensive training, participants will build on their understanding of domestic and sexual violence advocacy and learn to convey the five key components of domestic and sexual violence messaging by focusing on building skills in audience assessment, presentation preparation, and public speaking. Participants will also explore why we need communication plans and practice developing them. There will be discussions about cultural norms and the impact of media on sexual and domestic violence messaging. Participants will learn how to capitalize on their strengths and work through their challenges as a community educator. This training is intended to provide an array of concrete skills that any participant can immediately put to use in their dialy work from talking with legislators or funders to working out in the community or responding to media inquires.
Intended Audience: Advocates, allied professionals, and community members with an understanding of sexal and domestic violence basics and an interest in developing their capacity to effectively message on sexual and domestic violence issues.

Continuing Advocacy Training (CAT): Legal Advocacy

New in 2012! The Action Alliance is responding to a growing need to provide continuing education for advocates and allied professionals who have been in the sexual and domestic violence field for over three years and is developing it Continuing Advocacy (CAT) Series. This series will offer advocates and allied professionals a change to dig deeper and continue to build critical skills needed to enhance the response to and prevention of sexual and domestic violence. Look for additional training topics to be released soon!
This is the first of our Continuing Advocacy Training Series. This training explores how to provide effective legal advocacy with an enhanced understanding of available civil/criminal legal system remedies, the unique needs of underserved survivors, and nuances related to the Virginia Code, Protective Orders and Victim Rights. This training requires participants to have a basic understanding of sexual and domestic violence and legal advocacy.
Intended Audience: Advocates, Legal Aid Staff, allied professionals who engage with the civil/criminal legal system or who work with clients who do.

Dismantling Racism Training: Roots of Violence, Roots of Change

The Action Alliance, in keeping with our mission and guiding principles, has made a commitment to address racism as an essential component of our work to address sexual and domestic violence. Taking action to address racism in our organizations is a commitment that requires resources, knowledge, and a willingness to practice and learn. This two day training will offer participants opportunities to explore the roots of racism and to witness how racism is intrinsically linked to violence in our communities and throughout history. Participants will engage in discussion and learning to build skills needed for implementing change in themselves, in their organizations, and in their communities.

Protective Order Conference

Annual Conference - Protective Orders A to Z. Join us for this two and a half day conference exploring the scope of protective orders and the civil and criminal legal system response to sexual and intimate partner violence. This conference seeks to create space for networking and collective problem solving on some ot the emerging issues related to recent changes in the Virginia Protective Order legislation. There will be opportunities for regional discussion and within and across discipline relationship building. Yes. Changing the Future with Fresh Ideas and Effective Tools A Recipe for Prevention Web Series
|
Wether your're new to prevention work, a seasoned prevention worker, or simply interested in enhancing your knowledge and skill-sets, this is the training for you! In this three session web series you will learn why primary prevention programming is a critical part of ending sexual and intimate partner violence. You will also have the opportunity to connect to a network of professionals engaged in this work.
Registration will cover all three sessions. Each session is 90 miniutes. Please plan to participate in ALL three sessions.
Sesson 1: Changing the Future, 90 mins.
In this first session, you will learn why a PRIMARY prevention framework is critical for creating change in your local community and how this framework can help you develop compehensive prevention programming. You will learn about the root causes of sexual and intimate partner violence and the social conditions that help maintain a culture of silence and victim-blaming.
Session 2: Fresh Ideas, 90 mins.
In the second session, you will learn the most effective ways to develop stategies that will have an impact! We'll discuss the most current "best practices" for prevention programming and highlight innovative work already happening in Virginia and across the nation.
Session 3: Effective Tools, 90 mins.
In the final session, you will be introduced to a variety of tools to help you plan, implement, evaluate and sustain your prevention work! We will also connect you to a prevention community in Virginia that will provide support along the way.
