Allstate Training: Moving Ahead Through Financial Management
The Allstate/NNEDV Financial Empowerment Training uses the "Moving Ahead Through Financial Management" curriculum. This curriculum is designed to empower survivors of domestic violence by learning or re-learning the financial skills necessary to take control of their financial lives. By understanding and using these skills, survivors will be better equipped to make informed decisions for themselves and their children. It is divided into five modules that reflect the phases a survivor may move through while seeking assistance, while in crisis, during transition and while developing long term goals.

Basic Advocacy Trainings (BAT)

Basic Advocacy Trainings are designed for staff (paid and volunteer) of Action Alliance Sexual and Domestic Violence Advocacy member agencies who are in their first two years of working in the field. The trainings provide an opportunity to learn and practice the basic skills that are essential to effective advocacy. Cost: The registration fee for all Basic Advocacy Trainings is $35 and registration includes lunch.

Director's Dayz Out

Director's Dayz Out is a full training day for Sexual and Domestic Violence Program Directors. The sessions provide an opportunity for Program Directors to enhance their leadership skills by providing a reflective break where they can increase peer interaction, explore professional stategies and strengthen the overall impact of their programs. Guest presenters for the 2009 Director's Dayz Out sessions provided Directors with an array of valued resources. We anticipate that 2010 sessions will offer the same value.

In 2009 a dedicated team of survivors of sexual assault, sexual assault victim advocates, healthcare providers, and criminal justice professionals developed the Healthcare Guidelines to promote a consistent healthcare response to victims of sexual assault. This one-day training will provide an opportunity for participants to engage in learning about these guidelines and the model healthcare response to sexual assault. Participants will become better equipped to understand the roles, interactions and expectations of victim advocates, medical personnel and law enforcement within the guidelines.

Unheard Voices: Domestic and Sexual Violence in the Immigrant Community |
This Immigration Issue for Advocacy Training is one activity of the Action Alliance's on-going Immigration Advocacy Technical Assistant Project. The Project seeks to expand the support and resources available to SDVAs and communities in order to better serve immigrant and refugee victims of sexual/domestic violence and human traffiking. By attending this one-day training participants will gain knowledge on the services and resouces available for victims. Participants will explore many of the complex issues involved by assessing the strengths, challenges and barriers to services in communities for immigrant and refugee victims.

Mobilizing Communities: Developing Culturally Relevant Prevention Projects

This one-and-a-half day, advanced prevention training will help participants identify and understand community and cultural norms that are fundemental to the work of violence prevention. Presenters will emphasize the creation of sexual violence prevention and intervention stategies that are relevant, culturally compelling, and innovative. The questions that will guide this process include: What is community mobilization? Why is it necessary to create culturally relevant and community specific initiatives? What is our role in promoting social justice within communities? This training is designed for advocates and allies experienced with the public health approach to primary prevention.
About the Trainers:
Lydia Guy Ortiz is an independent consultant with an emphasis on sexual violence prevention and anti-oppression theory. She's been active in the anti-rape move for twenty years and is a board member of National Alliance to End Sexual Violence. She is committed to the creation of sexual violence prevention and intervention strategies that are relevant, culturally compelling, and innovative.
Noah Scalin is a lifelong activist and founder of the socially conscious design and consulting firm Another Limited Rebellion. Noah's work at ALR has gained international exposure in over two-dozen books and is frequently featured in design publications.

The Child Advocacy Task Force presents
“Trauma: Understanding the Cycle of Violence and Its Impact on Advocates”.
This one-day training will explore issues surrounding cycles of vicarious trauma specific to sexual and domestic violence. The training addresses the vulnerability of children and youth and explores primary and secondary intervention of violence. In addition, the training will provide participants with self-care tools and resources.

Women of Color Leadeship Conference |
This one-and-a-half day conference uniquely aims to equip advocates with the necessary skills and knowledge to explore the intersections of sexism, racism and violence by promoting leadership skills, facilitating critical dialogue and mobilizing participants for social justice. The Women of Color Leadership Conference offers training and resouce materials to build leadership among women of color activists by enhancing their capacity in areas such as program development, grant-writing, fundraising, commmunity organizing and policy development.
