Alexandria

April 8, 2010 The Clothesline Project: T-shirt Decorating Night , Drop in between 6:30 - 8:30pm. Spoonsored by: Alexandria Sexual Assault Response and Awareness Program (SARA). SARA Office, 421 King Street, Suite 400 City: Alexandria, VA. Painted t-shirts ... a simple yet effective means of conveying a message. If you are a survivor of sexual assault, sexual abuse, a loved one of a survivor, or someone who has been attacked because of your sexual orientation, please come and join us on April 8 th in creating a visual display of your experience about violence against women. You don’t need to be an artist to create a personal and profound message. We will supply all the materials. If you choose, you may then add your t-shirt to the others that will be on display at several different locations in Alexandria, in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. April 10, 2010 Walk a Mile in Her Shoes: The Men's March to End Sexual Violence. Sponsored by The Center for Sexual Assault Survivors. 10am Registration, Walk at 11am. City Center Fountain, Newport News. Men pledge to make a difference by walking a mile in women's high heel shoes. This fund event brings attention to a serious topic and gets men involved in the fight against sexual violence.

Williamsburg

April 16, 2010 Branch Out! concert ft. The Dave Matthews Tribute Band. Sponsored by Avalon: A Center for Women and Children. Doors Open at 6:00 p.m., concert kicks off at 7:00 p.m William & Mary Hall, Williamsburg. Join Avalon: A Center for Women and Children in celebrating 30 years of serving Greater Williamsburg Area survivors of domestic violence, stalking, sexual assault, and poverty-driven homelessness by hosting the First Annual Branch Out! concert. The doors will open to William & Mary Hall for Concert will open at 6 p.m. The concert begins at 7 p.m. featuring several William & Mary performers. The Dave Matthews Tribute Band is headlining the concert. Tickets are ten dollars.

Sponsored by Avalon: A Center for Women and Children. 12:00pm Duke of Gloucester Street, Williamsburg. Join Avalon: A Center for Women and Children in celebrating 30 years of serving Greater Williamsburg Area survivors of domestic violence, stalking, sexual assault, and poverty-driven homelessness by hosting Walk a Mile in her Shoes: The International Men's March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault, and Gender Violence. This fun race has big shoes to fill with hopes of having one hundred men walking a mile in high heel shoes through Downtown Williamsburg to express support for the women in their lives as well as the critical services Avalon provides sexual assault survivors. April 17, 2010 Run the D.O.G. (a 5K race to benefit Avalon: A Center for Women and Children) , 8:00am Prince George Street, Williamsburg. Join Avalon: A Center for Women and Children in celebrating 30 years of serving Greater Williamsburg Area survivors of domestic violence, stalking, sexual assault, and poverty-driven homelessness by hosting a 5K run, Run the D.O.G. This race will be an historic event as it will be the first race to ever run its course on “the most historic avenue in all of America,” Duke of Gloucester Street.
