There are three Councils that meet at each of the meetings of the Membership. One good way to get involved is to select a Council to participate with and regularly attend those Council meetings.
The Councils may establish committees to work on some projects. Once you attend a Council meeting you can find out more about the committees and about opportunities for Leadership positions.
To help you decide which Council meeting you would like to attend, general descriptions of each Council follow:
Membership Services Council
This Council focuses primarily on services to the members of the Alliance. These services include training, setting standards for Sexual Assault Crisis Centers and Domestic Violence Programs, and membership events such as the annual awards and recognition event and the annual retreat.
Resource Development Council
This Council focuses on ensuring that the Alliance is expanding the resources that are available to address sexual and domestic violence across Virginia. Resources include funding, interagency alliances, the services of the 24-hour statewide hotline, the statewide resource library, research, and publications. This Council also focuses on ensuring that the Alliance resources are well managed.
Advocacy Council
This Council coordinates statewide advocacy efforts to increase the public understanding of sexual and domestic violence, improve community responses to sexual and domestic violence and prevent future violence from happening. Activities of the Council include public awareness campaigns, development and implementation of public policy strategies and statewide prevention activities.
