Family Abuse Protective Order Video
Protective orders are an important tool to protect individuals and their family or household members from the abusive conduct of another. Each year in Virginia, more than 74,000 protective orders are issued by judges and magistrates. For victims of family abuse, the protective order process can be confusing and intimidating. Protective order respondents face restrictions on their conduct and criminal consequences for violations of those restrictions. In an effort to promote an understanding of protective orders, the process for obtaining protective orders in Virginia, and the potential consequences if a protective order is violated, the Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance developed the enclosed informational DVD, Family Abuse Protective Orders in Virginia.
